Fall bite is kicking off 22'

With two “cool fronts” already blowing through the waves of cooler and cooler mornings start. The fish are already reacting and have started feeding a little more aggressively. I say the fish because they are all turning on. Weve started finding a few more white bass on trips, carp have been sticking their whole bodies up on flats and bass are definitely keying in on shad with a lot more sporadic blow ups on schools of shad.

This all mean you should be fishing. Break out those topwater and baitfish flies and get to work! Dont be scared to go big this time of year while streamer fishing but if your just not moving anything a 2” shad pattern will save the day. Keep an eye on pressure changing days and know those bright and sunny high pressure days will probably be slow especially 10am to 2pm but prefrontal cloudy with pressure drops should be money.

Book your fall trips now! Come join me on the Brazos river for awesome views big Largemouth bass and aggresive Spotted bass, sight fishing carp and freshwater drum and Stripping bait fish flies for striper and white bass. Its also a great time of year for multi day over night camping floats, which are highly recommended and put us on some “wild” hardly fished water.

Elm Fork of the Trinity river is also a great fall urban float. This stretch runs straight through the east side of Dallas and is way prettier than it might sound. The banks are undeveloped and lined with oaks, elms, junipers and other native shrubs making you feel like your outside of a major city instead of running straight through it. Topwater action can be ok but streamer fishing baitfish and crawfish patterns definitely will get more fish to the net. Expect anything from largemouth and spotted bass, hybrid and white bass, freshwater drum, flathead, blue and channel catfish, spotted gar, grass and common carp, buffalo and of course sunfish.

DFW lakes just like everything else is feeling the slight cool off. Bass have been feeding on shad and the early topwater bite has been decent working vegetation, rocks and logs around points and coves with access to deep water. White bass and hybrids have been schooling early and right before dark. Carp, buffalo and freshwater drum have been up skinny and feeding as well as the occasional channel catfish. Bowfin are no different and the lakes that have them have been fishing well with cruisers shallow around vegetation and air gulper giving themselves away once the sun takes over.
